Located in the southwestern part of Heihe Municipality, the Wudalianchi Scenic Area is well-known national nature reserve and one of the 40 key scenic spots in China. In
this area 14 cones marked the sites of dormant volcanoes. With a perfect
preservation of the original geographical conditions, it is acclaimed
as the "Museum of Volcanoes." By the time of volcanic eruption,
the lava from the carter fell into nearby Bei River and blocked its
course, forming, thereby, a series of five barrier lakes. Thus, Wudalianchi
(Five Linked Lakes) is called. As one of the three cold springs in the
world, the mineral water in this place has many medical properties. |
