With its perpendicular cliffs, Mt. Beigu on the riverbank is a natural fortification. Looking down on top of the mountain some 1,400 years ago, Emperor Wudi of the Southern Dynasty (502-557) named it, with an inscription "The Best Place Under Heaven." Beigu is intimately involved in the stories of the Three Kingdoms. On the mountaintop stands Sweet Dew Temple built during 222 and 280.
