Located on Nanmen Street, the mosque was built in 1275 by a descendant of Mohammed during his missionary work in Yangzhou, and is one of the four largest in China, others being Huaisheng in Guangzhou, Qingjing in Quanzhou, and the Phoenix in Hangzhou.
The builder's tomb was located on the banks of the Grand Canal, with Arabians who came to visit Yangzhou in the Song and Ming dynasties.
