Guihua Temple

Guihua Temple, called Gardan Songzanlin in Tibetan, is 5 kilometers from the county seat of Zhongdian. The temple was built in 1679, the first temple of Tibetan Buddhism in Yunnan Province. It occupies 34 hectares of land. It is a five-story Tibetan watchtower-type structure, and the main hall has a roof of gilded bronze.

It also absorbed architectural style of the Han. The murals and wood carvings in the temple are extremely exquisite. The 29th day of the 11th Lunar month is the grandest religious festival for Tibetans. The main activity is a masked dance performed by lamas to exorcise evil spirits and pray for peace.
