Tuisiyuan, a Classical Garden on the Outskirts![]() Classical gardens are also found on the outskirts of Suzhou, including the Tuisiyuan Garden, the Yanyuan Garden, the Qiyuan Garden and the Gaoyi Garden. Among these the Tuisiyuan Garden in Tough Town in the southern suburb is the most famous. A bureaucrat surnamed Ren built the Tuisiyuan Garden (meaning, the garden in which to "look back and atone for past wrongdoings) in 1885, or the l1th year of the Guangxu Reign of the Qing Dynasty. The garden is laid out from east to west. Scenic spots are arranged along the shore of a wide pond. Hence the garden's nickname, "Hugging the Water Garden". It is a famed classical garden in the lower Yangtze Valley. |
